Unless HKBH Guards the City
Based on the chiour of Rav David Touitou chlita, Wednesday 7 October 2026 / 26 Tishrei 5787. Offered by Michel du Camp for the elevation of the soul of his father Shlomo ben Bracha, alav hashalom, and for all who left this world because they were Jews on the land of Israel on 7 October 2023: Nova, the kibbutzim. A thought for the sick of Israel, and for those the Rav named in his own house.
Torah and mitzvot are the shield of our history. A fence of two billion shekels opened to tractors. Shabbat protects the Jew, Torah protects the Jew, brit milah protects the Jew: be the guardian. If HKBH does not guard the city, the watchman watches in vain. While they want our death, we marry. Death, for us, does not exist. They will dance at the geulah.
1. A date that explodes in the head
The Rav had prepared Bereshit. With permission he changed the course. 7 October is a date that explodes in the head. Israel has the strength to get up, to go forward, to learn. The families he heard from yesterday and today do not need the date. When they walk into their children's room, they remember.
He wrote the course around six in the morning, to wake a memory we have no right to forget. What happened was unthinkable. It took a long time to realize that without HKBH, Israel would not exist. It took a long time also to react under a rain of missiles.
Almost three centuries back, a book already wrote in black on white what happened that day. Not the civil date. A Shabbat of Simchat Torah. The children of Israel jumping from rock to rock like panicked sheep. A scenario we now know. From that, and from this morning: Torah and mitzvot are the most important shield of our history.
Yossi Taieb of the Knesset was on the phone yesterday about francophone aliyah. The Rav's line for whoever wants to go up: the most complicated country in the world, the most criticized, and the safest.
2. When darkness defies the light
He says it out loud on the networks, without shame, in overflowing antisemitism. Israel is a light in every field: it lights history, compiles it, explains it. The territory is not larger than a French region, a département. It is the only country whose owner is described by history and by the Bible. For one who believes the Bible, the Creator of the world promises more than fifty-seven times that this land is given to the children of Israel, sons of Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yaakov. It is also the land most disputed. They speak of a state for two. A state already exists here since 1948, written in Hebrew and in Arabic.
He speaks of Arab citizens who do not pay the taxes Jews pay, who receive automatic university scholarships, who do not serve in the army, who are lawyers and judges. Jews share neighborhoods with them and are not welcomed in theirs. They love to work with Jews. That did not stop the murder. After investigation, those who sold the Jews of 7 October were those who worked for Jews. Those murdered in the kibbutzim were, he says, those who had supported them in school, medicine, and structure.
Tov. Life is a lesson. 7 October remains a grave date in the history of Israel. A day that should have woken the world to the danger of terrorism, and that the world saluted and glorified. In several countries, with government permission, they celebrate glory for the massacre. The day revealed how far human cruelty can go, and how far the greatness of Israel can rise.
The Torah teaches: when darkness seems, in their mouth, to have triumphed, that is the precise moment the hope of the light asks most to shine. Courage.
How did we get there, with the most secured barrier in the world? Almost two billion shekels. Opened, torn, with tractors. Tractors.
3. Unity, thanks, and the guardian
What to keep.
First: unity can save us. From 7 October, Israel has not been this united in a very long time. After the tragedy, thousands rose to help. Associations, gifts from the whole world, prayer, support, condolence.
The Rav's spoken count that morning is on the order of 1,250 to 1,280 murdered on the spot, most of the Nova dead of a left ideology, murdered because they were Jews. Non-Jews were murdered with them because they were with Jews. Later he adds soldiers killed in the war that followed, and the wounded, the amputees, the ones hit in the mind. Behind each figure there is a neshamah: a family, dreams, projects. Most were not even married. They had not had children. Memory is giving a face back to those who can no longer speak. So we speak for them.
Second: life is a real gift. A person notices when he loses it, or when he is sick. Every instant is precious. Gratitude, faith, and thanks. Thank HKBH every day for still being alive. Faith does not cancel the valley. » (Tehillim 23)
He will say it out loud. You must be shomer Shabbat. Shabbat protects the Jew. Torah protects the Jew. Brit milah protects the Jew. You have to be the guardian. Shomer Shabbat, shomer brit milah. Stop trampling the greatest values HKBH gave you.
Evil exists. It never has the last word. Amalek attacked the weak as soon as we left Egypt. We answered with courage. Today Amalek is scattered and Israel is gathered. Every mitzvah is a victory. Every Tehillim, every study of Torah, every act of kindness adds a light to the identity the world wants to scatter. Rebbe Nachman of Breslov, as the whole world knows: Israel can get up from everything. Despair does not exist. Death is only the beginning of a restart.
7 October must not be only a day of memory. It must become a call to strengthen the people: our unity, our love of the other, our attachment to Torah. The enemies of Israel are not only sowing fear. They are trying to divide us in order to control us. Victims are dressed as executioners. Executioners as victims. That buys the conscience of people who nourish it in the subconscious.
4. Unless HKBH guards the city
Never treat security as given. Man builds systems, walls, technologies. The Torah reminds us: if HKBH does not guard the city, the watchman watches in vain. Tehillim 127:1. Exactly what we lived. Human protection is necessary. May HKBH protect our chayalim. It has to come with trust in HKBH, and with the knowledge that it is HKBH who protects, not rifles, even if the rifle has a real role.
Force never replaces vigilance. A society can be powerful and still be caught off guard. Real strength is preparation, unity, intelligence, and humility. Humility.
We have the best army in the world. The best secret services. The atom. A technological army. We had nothing. Nothing at all. They came in, most of them, in flip-flops, with axes. We could not act: missiles from above. They had time to enter, to murder, to rape, to cut throats, to take more than two hundred, two hundred sixty, hostages, without hurrying, on our territory. Unthinkable. It is a joke. No: it happened.
The countries of the world should have kept this. There were two territories and a barrier. In France, England, Spain, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands: no border, no security. What happened to us can happen to you. Instead of taking the lesson, you invited them, you support them, you encourage them. When they have finished with the Jews to the point of making them flee, who is on the list? Who is next? You do not have a Tsahal. You do not have the courage of a government left isolated, criticized, condemned, boycotted, insulted, hunted, condemned also by international justice.
Humility is a form of protection, especially for Israel. Danger begins when a person or a nation thinks: nothing can happen to me. They will get excited, they will burn a bit, break a bit, that is all. 7 October taught that they can go much further. In a few hours, on the spot, more than a thousand lives. In proportion, the Rav puts it at about fifty thousand murdered in a few hours if the same blow fell on France. How does a state react to that, because the dead were French, English, German, Italian, whatever you want.
5. The wolf is not the grandmother
The story reminds him of Little Red Riding Hood, persuaded that the wolf is her grandmother. A grandmother loves her grandchildren and gives them cakes. Here the wolf says: « Tu sais, je suis pas ta grand-mère. »
There were t-shirts in France, all over the networks: the map of France, the Algerian flag, in large letters, « Je te violerai jusqu'à ce que tu m'aimes. » A slogan from a video you can still find. Can one be clearer than that? You destroyed us and stopped us from acting. You condemned us. Do you understand the gravity.
Those who will listen to this course in order to insult him, curse him, wish harm on us and on the Jews: your insults are compliments. One only bothers to criticize what shines.
Hatred destroys first the one who carries it. That is what most of the madmen of this world forget. The Torah does not ask us only to fight evil. It forbids us to become prisoners of hatred. As it is written: you shall not hate in your heart, and find solutions. (Lo tisna et achicha bilvavecha.) Democracy does not ask democrats to die. It orders them first to protect themselves.
6. Faces: Eden, and the table of Simchat Torah
Kindness can appear in the most terrible situations. Ordinary people did acts of great courage. The catastrophe also unveiled the hidden greatness of many souls. Yesterday the memory of a woman named Eden. A soldier, twenty-two. She saved thirteen lives before losing her own. When she had no more ammunition she went out to fight, a woman of twenty-two, barehanded, facing several men. We call them men. They took her life without restraint. How many courageous souls. How many things we still do not know. How many ran to give their life to save other lives of our people.
Family must become a priority again. They were taken from families in the kibbutzim. Grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren around the table, some celebrating Simchat Torah, some not. The door smashed open. Women raped. Children beheaded and disemboweled.
This tragedy reminds us brutally what actually counts. Call your parents papa and maman. Kiss your children and bless them. We, Israel, know how to say I love you to our children. Pardon one another. Do not put off the essential until tomorrow.
Solidarity is not only a beautiful value. It is a necessity and a security. All Israel are guarantors for one another. When one falls, the other holds out a hand to raise him. The Rav reached for a masechta and did not land on the name.
Technology must never replace the human. The most sophisticated systems in the world, which exist in Israel, will never replace discernment, courage, or each person's responsibility. We have no right to count on systems, and we have to understand that HKBH needs a system: respect for Torah and mitzvot, and a people that never lowers its guard until the final redemption.
A tragedy must produce a transformation in each of us. The question is not only why this happened. What must we become after this?
7. Images, courts, and houses of brick
He thinks we reacted well. The images are misleading. Forty years in this country. French army commando at Évreux, 1984 to 1985. Israeli service as well. He knows the system. If an Israeli soldier makes the slightest false step, he is judged, taken to a tribunal. Often the judge or the prosecutor facing you is an Arab Muslim. Not necessarily a Jew. He got a fine on the way to Tiberias from an Israeli policeman named Mohamed. He is very glad to live here. Very happy.
If every house that was destroyed was a house they fired from, a house where terrorists hid, then those houses served terrorists. At that point they were united against us. What interest does Israel have in destroying brick houses? Israel is not idiot enough to eat the banana peel and throw away the fruit. We are not looking to destroy houses. We are looking to destroy those who want our death. Everyone knows: ninety percent of their population are for them. Ten percent suffer it. Those ten percent served as human shields.
To say such truths is useless anyway. There is none so blind as he who will not see, none so deaf as he who lives in denial, protected by his hatred.
Learn to distinguish fear from prudence. Fear is paralysis. Prudence prepares. Emunah does not mean closing your eyes on the danger. It means acting intelligently without letting fear run your life. On that, he thinks Israel acted perfectly. We are a very courageous people. We were very many. He thanks everyone who helped, money and morale and kind words, to hold until today. We are in 2026. It was 2023. We have not finished with this story.
Life must be lived. Not only survived. After such a tragedy one can be afraid to take pleasure in life. Continue to love, to laugh, to work, to build a family, and to celebrate.
8. The wedding of Naomi's brother
A great mazel tov. This evening the Rav is going to marry the brother of Naomi to his kallah. Naomi was murdered. May HKBH rest her soul. A great tzadeket. Shomeret mitzvot. She loved Torah and mitzvot. A practicing family. That day she had decided only to go see what the Nova festival was. Barely arrived, she was shot, he believes with two bullets.
The message: while our enemies want our death, we live. While they want to separate couples, we marry. While they hate us, we love. This evening her brother, this husband, mazel tov to the whole family. That is the most beautiful message one can send them. That is the greatest of missiles, the one that accomplishes its mission. We continue to live. We believe in love. We believe in family. Not with knives at the throat. With children who dance hand in hand, with Shabbat, with blessings, with good food, with magnificent prayers. A people that lives to the rhythm of the sun, not of the penumbra. That is Israel.
7 October obliges us to choose between two paths. Fear or construction. Abandonment or resistance. Evil wants us constantly afraid of the future, of insecurity. The Torah says the exact opposite. Do not be afraid. HKBH is with you, Israel. The best answer to those who want to destroy us is that we continue to live, still more: more Torah, solidarity, dignity, family, love, kindness, hope, until the final deliverance.
9. The library of the nations
As a former teacher of history and of kodesh, he reminds the nations that remain hostile and hateful toward Israel, in the name of the Bible and of history, never to forget: in their own library, the evil they wanted to make us suffer, century after century, always turned back on them.
Haman asked for a gallows to hang Mordechai. He was hanged on that same gallows. Sancheriv, king of Ashur, came to destroy the Jews of Jerusalem. He said: in a single day I will destroy them. In a single day they were all dead (his men). Hitler wanted the extermination of the Jews, pretexting the Aryan race, that he was invincible. More than six million dead. He found death in his own bunker in Berlin: disappointment, illness, despair. We, descendants of the Shoah, raised a flag that still shines: the Star of David. Each time you want to harm us, boycott us, destroy us, divide us, that same evil returns on the one who wishes it.
Where is Egypt, that subjected us to slavery? Where are the Babylonians, Nevuchadnetzar and their reign, who destroyed the Temple of Israel? Nothing. Where is Persia, once sovereign of the world? Nothing. The Greeks: nothing. Rome, the Second Temple destroyed: nothing. The Reich, Hitler: nothing. Amalek: nothing. We are here. We will be here, and that for eternity.
If you tell me, go fry an egg, you dirty Jew, let me answer politely. Who lives will see. And we intend to live. Even death, among us, does not exist. All these people who were murdered will come back to dance at the moment of the geulah.
Conclusion
Keep this: Torah and mitzvot accompany us everywhere. Thank you to Michel du Camp for this course, for the elevation of the soul of Shlomo ben Bracha du Camp, alav hashalom, and all the victims of Nova, all our people of those kibbutzim who, by ignorance of Judaism and by the influence of the left media of our country, fell into a trap that turned against them and against us until today.
Thank you to you. Thank you to the Creator of the world for having given us Torah and mitzvot.
Chabbat is not negotiated. Chabbat is what protects us.
Kol tuv.
If HKBH does not guard the city, the two-billion-shekel fence is a tractor's work. Be shomer Shabbat. Thank Him that you are still alive. Call papa and maman. Marry. Dance. The dead of 7 October will dance at the geulah. We intend to live.

-
Opening and dedication. Amen. »
-
Families who do not need the date. »
-
From Bereshit to the messages; the old book. »
-
Aliyah, the sick, six in the morning. »
-
Darkness defies the light; the land. »
-
Neighbors, the sold, the supported. »
-
Glory for the massacre; the barrier. »
-
Unity and the gift of life. »
-
Guardian of Shabbat. « Il faut être shomer Shabbat. Shabbat protège le juif. La Torah protège le juif. La brit milah protège le juif. Mais il faut en être le gardien. Shomer Shabbat, shomer brit milah. »
-
Memory as a call.
-
Flip-flops and hostages. Impensable. »
-
Europe; Little Red Riding Hood; the t-shirt. »
-
Insults as compliments; Eden. »
-
Do not hate; family; areivut. »
-
Systems and transformation.
-
Fear and prudence; 2026.
-
Two paths. »
-
Haman, Sancheriv, Hitler, the empires. »
-
The egg, the geulah, Shabbat. Kol tuv. »
